Ask MeFi: Mac Apps

Despite its legendary awesomeness I tend to stay away from MetaFilter because it’s JUST TOO MUCH, but I recently found the Popular Favourites page and feed which makes things a little more manageable. So expect samplings of MeFi on FYPA from now on.

Here’s a classic piece of Ask MeFi goodness – a contemporary and bias-free list of useful Mac applications. Old school!

Tiny Lion things

“What tiny thing in Lion makes you smile or has caught you off guard?” A neat thread on Stack Overflow picking out those changes to Apple’s operating system that didn’t get picked up in the big reviews.

I’m particularly pleased with the loupe view in Preview, where pressing ` will bring up an automatically resizing magnifier.

Making Desktop Webapps in OSX Lion

Using the Automator app in Lion you can open web pages in little (or big) floating windows on your mac.

I have no idea what this might be useful for, but I can think of a few things it might be interesting to do with. Maybe.
